What is periodic electrical testing?

Periodic electrical testing, sometimes called fixed wire testing or an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), assesses the safety and performance of your building’s electrical systems. It ensures that all fixed electrical installations, such as sockets, lighting, and wiring, remain safe, compliant, and fit for continued use.

Under the Electricity at Work Regulations, commercial properties must undergo a full inspection and test of all fixed electrical systems at least every five years. Regular testing helps identify deterioration, damage, or non-compliance before they become serious risks.

At Complii, our qualified engineers carry out thorough inspections and testing across all types of commercial and industrial environments, ensuring your electrical systems meet UK safety standards and perform reliably.

Legal compliance

Routine testing ensures your business meets the requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations, protecting both your organisation and your people.

Improved safety

Testing identifies electrical faults, damage, or potential fire hazards before they escalate, helping you prevent incidents and maintain a safe environment.

Early fault detection

Our engineers detect and report on issues early, reducing the likelihood of costly downtime or emergency repairs.

Comprehensive reporting

You’ll receive a detailed Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) outlining all findings, including any required remedial works and recommendations.

Reduced insurance risk

Maintaining up-to-date testing and certification can support insurance compliance and demonstrate due diligence in managing electrical safety.

Peace of mind

With regular inspections carried out by trusted professionals, you can be confident that your electrical infrastructure remains safe and compliant at all times.

Your questions answered.

  • For commercial properties, testing is typically required every five years, though certain environments may need more frequent inspections depending on usage and risk.

  • It includes a full visual examination and electrical testing of all fixed installations, such as sockets, lighting, distribution boards, and wiring, to identify damage, defects, or non-compliance.

  • We plan all works carefully to minimise disruption. Testing can be completed outside normal hours or in phases to suit your business operations.

  • You’ll receive an EICR detailing all findings. Any C1 or C2 defects (danger present or potentially dangerous) will require prompt remedial action, which our engineers can carry out efficiently and safely.

  • Testing must be completed by qualified and competent electricians. Complii’s accredited engineers hold all necessary certifications to perform inspections in accordance with BS 7671.
